Making of Day 112/365 Close Encounters Dream and CONTEST!

My photo for Day 112 was based on a recurring dream that I started having after watching the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" in 1977.  It was also influenced by another movie, "Fire in the Sky" from 1993.

Here is the completed image.

I originally was going to try using the glass globe in the space craft (which is more how it looks in my dream), but that didn't work out the way I wanted.

I hope you enjoyed looking at my image and seeing all of the images that went into it.  There will be more coming in the Dreams and Nightmares series for my 365 Project on flicker.  You can see my 365 Project images and more of my experimental images at http://flickr.com/photos/janesampsonphoto.

The Contest

Does anyone have a dream or nightmare that they would like to share? Just post in the comments below.  I will make an image based on the one that I like the best and will provide the full-size digital image to the winning dream or nightmare.

Thanks for reading my post.

Before and After for Day 110/365 Being Chased in a Dream Photograph

Day 110/365 Being Chased in a Dream

I spent all day yesterday creating the background for this photo.  The background is made up of three images of different locations and a fourth  image of a seagull.  Here are the three location images.

The running girl (me) was shot earlier this evening in my studio.  I used one light. A Nikon  SB-900 flash, bare at 1/8 power camera left. I used Photoshop to change the color of the cloak and turn the jeans into a long dress.

Thanks for reading this post.

My First Photo Blog

Finally, I have a blog. I have read several articles and blogs that recommend not only having an online portfolio, but also having a blog is a must. So today I decided to create my blog.  Coming up with a name for the blog was difficult, so I took the easy road and used my name. (Hey, I'm creative at photography, not name thinking upping.)

Today is Day 96 of my 365 project on flickr and I haven't a clue as to what I will photograph.  Some days I have lots of ideas and others, like today, I'm blank.  I am new in Orlando and haven't made any friends outside of work so far, so I'm pretty much stuck with myself as a model.  I'm getting quite used to posting self-portraits now.

When I first started this project, I was embarrassed to post my own portrait for fear of looking stupid, but now, the sillier I can make a portrait of myself, the better.  In fact, I think that is what led me to enjoy making humorous photos more than any other types of photographs.  (Yeah, I have no problem making other people look silly too.)

So, this is the end of my first blog post.  Wish me luck on my Day 96.
